A PASSION FOR HIS GLORY

By Pastor Dionne M-J

“For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.” — Habakkuk 2:14 (KJV)

In the book of Habakkuk, we encounter a vision of profound hope and assurance: the promise that the earth will one day be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, just as the waters cover the sea. This prophetic word speaks not only to the future but also ignites a deep passion within us to actively participate in the spreading of God’s glory today.

Understanding God’s Glory

The glory of the Lord is the manifestation of His divine nature—His holiness, majesty, and power. It is the radiant beauty of His perfection, the awe-inspiring essence of who He is. To be passionate about His glory means to desire that His greatness be known, celebrated, and revered by all creation.

The Call to Passion

A passion for God’s glory is not merely a feeling but a driving force that compels us to action. It is a commitment to live in a way that reflects His character and makes His presence known in the world. This passion is rooted in our love for God and our desire to see His kingdom come and His will be done on earth as it is in heaven (Matthew 6:10).

Living Out Our Passion

  1. Worship and Devotion: Our primary response to God’s glory is worship. This is not limited to singing songs but encompasses a lifestyle of devotion and obedience. When we prioritize our relationship with God and seek to honor Him in all we do, we reflect His glory.
  2. Spreading the Gospel: The knowledge of God’s glory spreads through the proclamation of the gospel. Every time we share the message of Christ’s love and salvation, we are helping to fill the earth with the knowledge of the Lord. This can be through personal evangelism, supporting missions, or utilizing digital platforms to reach a broader audience.
  3. Serving Others: Jesus taught us that serving others is a way to reflect God’s glory. Acts of kindness, compassion, and justice point people to the nature of God. When we serve those in need, we embody the love of Christ and make His glory known.
  4. Building Community: The church, as the body of Christ, is a visible expression of God’s glory on earth. By fostering an authentic Christian community, we create a space where the knowledge of God can flourish. This involves discipleship, fellowship, and mutual support as we grow together in faith.

Overcoming Challenges

Pursuing a passion for God’s glory is not without challenges. We may face opposition, discouragement, or feel inadequate for the task. Yet, we can take heart in the promise of Habakkuk 2:14. God’s plan is unstoppable, and He equips us with His Spirit to fulfill our calling. As we rely on His strength and guidance, we can overcome obstacles and continue to spread the knowledge of His glory.

A Vision for the Future

Habakkuk’s prophecy gives us a vision of hope and purpose. It reminds us that our efforts are part of a grand divine plan. One day, the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, and every knee will bow and every tongue confesses that Jesus Christ is Lord (Philippians 2:10-11). Until that day, we are called to be passionate ambassadors of His glory, bringing His light to a world in need.

Conclusion

A passion for His glory transforms our lives and impacts the world around us. It calls us to worship, evangelize, serve, and build community with the ultimate goal of making God’s greatness known. As we embrace this calling, we become part of God’s redemptive work, contributing to the fulfillment of His glorious promise: that the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.
